Without exception, all of our milk comes from farms in our cooperative. These are situated in the mountainous Alpine region between Watzmann and Zugspitze, where Germany meets Austria.
Natural and cultural landscape
We and our farmers do everything we can to protect and preserve the Alpine environment and the many species that live there.
Production site
We process milk to the highest standard. Our only production facility located in Piding in the Berchtesgadener Land region. We do not outsource production.
Fairness
We honour the valuable work of our 1,600 farmers in the cooperative. We pay them a fair milk price. In this way, we secure their livelihoods and preserve the unique cultural landscape in the mountain region.
Animal welfare
With an average of 27 cows per farm, our farmers keep an eye on every single cow. The close human-animal relationship on small farms, our commitment to cow comfort and our exercise premiums serve the welfare of the animals.
Healthy cows are crucial when it comes to milk of the best quality. With a bonus system and a team of advisers, we are committed to the free movement of dairy cows.
Natural rock salt
Many of our farmers give their cows licks made from natural rock salt that is rich in minerals. The salt comes from a local mine in Berchtesgaden and is a natural way to strengthen the immune system.
Natural feed
Our farmers traditionally feed their animals grass and herbs, be it fresh, dried as hay or as silage. This feed is guaranteed to be free from genetically engineered ingredients. Farmers are required to purchase feed of European origin.
Our farmers do not use total herbicides such as glyphosate. They work using natural, sustainable methods to help preserve the diversity of grasses and herbs.
Sustainable packaging
We use environmentally friendly packaging, leading the way for others. Our various glass bottles can be reused. Naturally, we choose not to work with PET bottles. In 2017, we also began using bio-based cardboard packaging made from renewable raw materials.
Sustainability award
Our efforts to run a responsible and sustainable business were rewarded in 2018 and 2023 with the German Sustainability Award.
Resource conservation
We are efficient with resources in our work. For example, we use waste heat from our production facilities to heat buildings and tap water. We have also built our own power supply centre on the dairy farm for environmentally friendly power generation.
In 2010, we became the first dairy and the first German company to be awarded Naturland Fair certification for our Naturland product range. This reflects fair cooperation between the dairy, producers, business partners, employees and consumers.
Faire Rohstoffe
Our fair-trade partners are Gepa, dwp, Grüner Punkt Naturkost und biokorntakt. They ensure that our products contain organic and fair-trade cocoa, raw cane sugar, bananas and mangos.
